Disinfection

Disinfection reduces the germs or kills them or inactivates a significant part of the microorganism population. According to the German Pharmacopoeia (DAB) and various specialist articles, disinfection means “to bring dead or living material into a state that it can no longer infect”.

The disinfection procedures in specialist practices concern hygienic hand disinfection, hand washing and care, skin disinfection, mucous membrane antisepsis, instrument preparation, treatment unit and floors. They are mainly carried out using disinfectants and are set out in detail in the hygiene plan.
